Additional Information: Based on an innovative theoretical framework on language and globalisation, this paper analyses fraudulent e-mail messages sent from various places in the world and proposing financial transactions of considerable size. The analysis reveals that the compatence to perform such advanced acts of globalised literacy involves several types of co;petence, the most sensitive one is competence in deploying specific genre conventions.
