Additional Information: This article presents empirical evidence from a follow-up study of schools which had been members of a school-based research consortium. The school-based research consortia initiative was a project funded by the Teacher Training Agency for a period of 3 years to bring together schools, HEIs and LEAs to work collaboratively to encourage teachers to engage in and with research. The authors were the HEI co-ordinator and a school research co-ordinator for one of the 4 national consortia. The article investigates the extent to which activities to support professional dialogue evolved within a school-based research consortium had been sustained and developed three years after the period of external funding. The findings contribute to the growing research interest in work of professional learning communities at the level of practice. The joint investigation and co-writing of the article also exemplify the principles of collaborative partnerships between HEIs and schools.
