Additional Information: This article proposes a radically new approach to assessment in Higher Education that of ipsative assessment. The argument is supported by established theoretical models. The work has recieved much interest at 2 international conferences and 1 national event. Small scale externally funded research into the application of this assessment approach has been completed and a larger study is planed with external partners such as Oxford Brookes University and the OU.
