|Additional Information:||This article reports on a study conducted to survey primary teachers' practice in the use of morphemes in their literacy instruction and an expeiment aimed at changing their practice. It is part of a project funded under the ESRC Teaching and Learning Programme. It has also informed the English 21 initiative, spearheaded by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, as plans are made to develop literacy teaching in schools during the next 15 years.|
