Additional Information: Based on an ESRC funded study of the processes of higher education choice. The study employed qualitative and quantative methods to explore the choice-making of students and their families. . The interviews elicited educational career histories from the students and a narrative account of their choice of higher education institutions. Specific questions were asked about information used, support received, constraints etc.. In addition to the students, 15 intermediaries and 40 parents were interviewed and 502 students completed a questionnaire. A small number of careers advice interviews, HE application preparation sessions, Oxbridge application advice sessions and meetings for parents on HE choice were observed. Ball lead author 80%
