||An examination of ways to engage young audiences in questioning the historical and social structures that reproduce heteronormativity. Drawing on Judith Butler I analyse how an art and design school student enacts and reconfigures representations of gender and sexuality to afford a space for the construction of queer identities. In particular the analysis focuses on space both as a semiotic vehicle and as a metaphor for social relations. The article promotes analytical and historical procedures in place of the confessional discourses that dominate popular discourses on sexuality.
