Additional Information: This research examines the role of education in ‘successful globalisation’, a novel concept that refers to economic growth with equality and social peace. It explores this role in the East Asian Tiger economies, and in China, India, Kenya and Sri Lanka. The analysis of the relationship is deepened through a comparison with the separate but parallel discourse on education and ‘sustainable development’. The research is based on critical reviews of literatures on education, growth, equality, social cohesion/peace and sustainable development and through peer review by 20-30 members of policy communities in each of China, India, Kenya and Sri Lanka. The article attracted the highest number of journal downloads over two quarters in 2009. (113)
