Additional Information: Field of enquiry: game studies Perspective: a multimodal analysis of four examples of fan response to the computer game Final Fantasy 7. The work was conducted as part of the AHRB project 'The Textuality of Computer Games'. Original contribution: the application of social semiotic and multimodality theory to the analysis of roleplaying games and fanwork. Research basis/rigour: the chapter consistently applies the Hallidayan semiotic metafunctions framework to the texts analysed. This is a book chapter; but the draft manuscript was submitted to academic readers by the publishers, and redrafted accordingly.
