This project has significantly advanced our understanding of how environments can expand, consolidate or undermine the learning gains of adults entering new workplaces through retraining. The project outcomes were graded as ‘outstanding’ in ESRC end of award peer and merit review. f. The paper is based on a material presented by the authors at the 3rd International Conference on Researching Work and Learning (25-27 July 2003), Tampere, Finland.
