Additional Information: The paper shows how biometrical genetic models for twin and family data can be expressed as standard multilevel models so that they can be estimated using standard software. Three study designs are considered: twin studies, siblings plus cousings, and nuclear family data. The paper is important because these models could previously only be estimated using specialised software. For family data with varying family sizes, estimation using the conventional approach was more computer intensive than estimation using the proposed approach.
