Additional Information: This article is a response to the publication in 2007 of the Civitas pamphlet Corruption of the Curriculum. The author of the Geography chapter, Alex Standish, has written articles and a full length book criticising school geography’s place regarding the ‘new agendas’ of global citizenship and others. Whilst agreeing with some points we have been disappointed with the quality of Standish’s writings and wished to open up the debate more fully. We are profoundly suspicious of the apparent wish to return to some kind of ‘pure’ school knowledge. Standish is, by all account, ‘well in with’ the Tory education team and I have debated aspects of this matter with him on the Today Programme, the GA annual meeting etc – as well as with Nick Gibb directly.
