Additional Information: This article was one of the first pieces of empirical work to explore the characteristics of this emerging group of professionals within Higher Education. (Previous work had identified this group but not studied their practices in any detail.) Using semi-srtuctured interviews, an account of common practices and attitiudes was provided, which forms the basis for a model of the group's professional pedagogy. This work has since formed the basis for a series of successful consultancy and research projects. This is an electronic version of an article published in Oliver, Martin (2002) What do learning technologists do? Innovations in Education and Training International, 39 (4). pp. 245-252.
