This chapter reports and discusses aspects of a government initiative supporting pregnant teenagers and teenage parents that aimed to reduce rates of social exclusion among teenge parents and their children. Highlights the value of providing holistic support, targeted at the most vulnerable young people. d. As part of a well-established series of study group publications it reaches a wide range of health practitioners in children's and women's health. e. Based on: questionnaire data from 1081 young mothers (response rate of 20%), 86 young fathers (response rate of 8% & 38%) and 914 professionals from partner agencies (response rate of 44%) in areas delivering the initiative and matched areas; interview data from young mothers, staff delivering the initiative and partner professionals. All response rates are likely to be underestimates as it was apparent that not all questionnairs sent for distribution were passed on. f. Chapter refereed by the editors. g. First author.
