||Drawing on my own and others' research, this chapter, in the Second International Handbook of Educational Change argues for greater connections between learning communities at all levels, offering a new model outlining the key components for such systemic connections. It also articulates the concept of knowledge animation, a new way of understanding the learning connection that is needed for educators to engage in research (more fully articulated in Stoll, L. (2008) Leadership and policy learning communities: promoting knowledge animation, in B. Chakroun and P. Sahlberg (ed) Policy Learning in Action: ETF Yearbook 2008. Torino, Italy: European Training Foundation.)
