| Additional Information: | In recent years, a growing number of methods for synthesising qualitative research have emerged, particularly in relation to health-related research. There is a need for both researchers and commissioners to be able to distinguish between these methods and to select which method is the most appropriate to their situation. There are two other reviews that overlap with this one, but neither is as comprehensive or attempts to analyse the theoretical foundations of the methods reviewed. This paper has met with widespread international approval and is already used in numerous higher education courses. It was in the ‘top 10’ downloaded papers in the journal for several months and has already been accessed some 6,000 times in less than six months. |
