This paper reports on findings from one of the few major studies examining attitudes and experiences of teenage pregnancy among an ‘at risk’ group of young people in and leaving public care. The study explored factors contributing to early pregnancy and parenthood; the types of support available; and the extent to which services were perceived as accessible. The paper suggests early parenthood may be a positive outcome for some young people in this group and highlights the significant tensions around child protection experienced by local authorities and young parents. d. Research presented at three national and five regional conferences; National Children’s Bureau requested a Briefing for their members from the study. e. 63 young men and women were involved in semi-structured interviews f.
