Additional Information: This chapter provides an overview of risk concepts focusing on the differences between deterministic causal factors and probabilistic factors. Then it describes the assessment of typical risk factors and explores the predictive efficacy of single and multiple risk indices. Finally, the chapter identifies social protective factors and resilience that would allow children to overcome adversity and achieve developmental competence.
