Abstract

This book addresses the need to support teachers in developing adults' skills through reading for pleasure as an individual and group practice, incorporating the activity into the curriculum. It focusses on reading for pleasure for adult emergent readers- those who consider themselves non-readers either people they feel they cannot or do not read- and draws on the author's research with adult readers and reading circles. Note from author: This is a practitioner focussed book commissioned by NIACE in order to disseminate the results of my research (2012, 2013) into reading circles and reading for pleasure with adult emergent readers. I was asked to produce an accessible, practical but research-based book to support those less confident working with these approaches with adults in community, FE and library contexts. It was peer-reviewed.
