Abstract

Qualitative data analysis software continues to be developed to support the work of researchers. WINMAX PRO is an example of one of the current packages that supports data analysis. It is claimed by the developer that the package supports grounded theory studies and the article explores a number of issues in relation to the use of grounded theory and the impact of WINMAX. The article explores grounded theory and the use of WINMAX in the context of a study that examined the teaching of language and literacy at Key Stage 2 and concludes that overall WINMAX is particularly useful in supporting open coding and text retrieval but that it does have limitations
