Abstract

This report explores the role and meaning of 'technician' within the healthcare sector and its articulation with registration, quaification and career pathways. Its findigns shed light on the complex and evolving range of responsibilities and levels of expertise of people working in the 'intermediate space' within the healthcare workforce. The findings contribute to debates in the UK and other countries about skill formation in complex and dynamic work settings as well as to debates about how skills and education policy in the UK might respond to the increasingly fluid nature of skills distribution.
