||This paper, based on a large EU project directed by the second author, describes a narrative-oriented approach to the design and the analysis of a computational system and a set of activities for mathematical learning. Published in an influential journal, the argument centres around the notion of programming as a means to resolve the tension between the different representational structures of narrative and mathematical formalism.
