Additional Information: This book made a significant contribution to the field of study now known as the sociology of childhood. It helped to kick-start a scholarly debate on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child through providing an early critique of children’s participation in non-western, more collective societies and by pointing out the risk of placing children ‘on the cultural front line’.
