Additional Information: Rigour: Although in a handbook, this is a strongly academic and theoretical piece, conducted on the basis of both deep and wide-ranging engagement with complex theory across several subfields of education. These are applied rigorously to the topic at hand. Orginality: To my knowledge, a paper drawing together these theoretical perspectives on this topic has not been published elsewhere. I have received several invitations to present on this topic since first presenting on it last year. Significance: the increased digitalisation of educational process is an extremely important contemporary topics, and a theoretised understanding of this from social and historical standpoint is vital for in-depth understanding of present and future practice.
