Additional Information: This chapter is based on analysis of written accounts from the Mass-Observation archive at the University of Sussex. In the extracts considered, older adults write about their use of mathematics. The chapter concludes that grandparents can play a role in their grandchildren's mathematical learning. This is relevant to the recommendations of the Williams review on involving families and to recent research which has raised the issue of whether grandparents have a positive or negative impact.
