|Additional Information:||This single authored book about primary mathematics is based on ethnographic data gathered in four classrooms over the course of three years. It is firmly based on research but written for an audience including teachers, intending teachers and teaching assistants. Some of the key themes of the book are developed from articles published in academic journals. Each chapter of the book considers a particular type of mathematical task, for example mental tasks, practical tasks or assessment tasks. Messages are drawn across the book, which suggest the complexity of factors operating in classrooms. Common themes are the inconsistent performance of children on mathematical tasks and the occasional outstanding response to a task or insightful comment from children generally considered o be unsuccessful at mathematics.|
