Additional Information: Chapter 19 in 'Music Education in the 21st Century in the UK' - an overview of policy, practice and issues arising for community musicians in the UK. This chapter is an example of one of my chapters from the book 'music Education in the 21st Century in the United Kingdom', co-edited by myself and Sue Hallam. The book, as a whole, is an important advocacy tool and information source. This particular chapter sets out the key issues relating to policy, practice, pedagogy and research evidence in community music in the UK. At a time when much music education funding is channelled through Youth Music, who represent a growing sector of community musicians, a chapter devoted to exploring these issues is highly relevant to practitioners and policy makers. This represents a rigorous, evidence-based review of the most salient issues relating to community music in the UK. It will be an important advocacy tool for those working in the sector and furthermore will inform academic debates and practitioner approaches.
