Additional Information: This is internationally significant in contributing to an international collection of essays on media education and online culture, edited from the US. Burn was the lead author, interpreted the data, and constructed the argument based on third space theory. It is original in drawing on new empirical research from a large ESRC project, the first to research learning progression in media literacy internationally, across a sample of approximately 2000 students. It is rigorous in combining quantiative survey data and qualitative interview data, and in its theoretical framework, based in sociologies of media culture.
