Additional Information: The research reported here is the largest study in the field and has been cited in the EPPIE review as the most significant contribution to our knowledge of how teaching assistants impact on teaching and learning.It includes extensive and unique data covering various aspects of the role, conditions of service, deployment and perceptions of TAs, as well as those of teachers who have their support.The results have fed into the present DfES policy of continuing the development of support staff roles and responsibilities.
