Additional Information: This chapter reconceptualises academic writing provision in higher education as the teaching and learning of competing and contested sets of writing methodologies and social practices. The authors argue that self-reflexive pedagogies work to reposition students as active particpants in writing and research processes. The paper makes a contribution to deconstructing the subtle power relations and identity positions that are embedded in academic conventions.
