The Place to Be? making media with young refugees.
Years of conflict: adolescence, political violence and displacement.
Berghahn Books, Oxford, pp. 277-296.
||This chapter is based on original empirical research. It is draws on specific aspects of research funded by the ESRC and the Euopean Union. The research analysed the media lives (consumption and production) of the participant refugee and migrant children and used this as the entry point through which to discuss wider issues of identity and belonging. It analyses TV talk, drawings about television characters and shows and videos made by the children. It argues that the use of digital media can allow young people to develop and express their experiences and opinions on issues that directly affect their lives and that there is potential for this to be a useful way of developing direct self representation work with children in schools and of addressing policy concerns. It has been peer reviewed by the editor of: Researching Refugee Children in Different Contexts, published by Berghahn Books This document has been closed because the permission of the publisher has not been verified.
