Additional Information: This highly original, ESRC-funded study engages with gender differences in primary school writing attainment through a repeat-design and an educational linguistics lens, including the use of innovative, genre-specific, rating scales. The study is located at the forefront of international research through a substantial literature review, which contextualises the paper's distinctive contribution to the field. The study was methodologically and theoretically robust and systematic. Validity, reliability and ethical issues are addressed in ways that are commensurate with the highest international standards.
